2008 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

MMANC is pleased to announce three scholarship opportunities for members to attend nationally recognized leadership training in August and September of 2008.

 

Berkeley Executive Seminar at UC Berkeley on August 4-8 ($1,600 scholarship)

  

CEPO Accelerated Leadership Development Series in Santa Barbara on August 17-22 ($1,000 scholarship)

 

ICMA Annual Conference in Richmond, VA on September 21-24 ($1,000 scholarship)

 

One scholarship will be given for each of these events, to partially cover the registration and travel costs, but recipients are required to secure funding for the remaining costs.  Following completion of the scholarship program, the recipient will be asked to write a summary report of his/her experiences that will be shared with the MMANC membership.

Berkeley Executive Seminar at UC Berkeley (August 4-8)

The Berkeley Executive Seminar (BES) offers senior and aspiring local government managers from throughout the West the opportunity to exchange and acquire tools for improving local government performance.  The curriculum focuses on issues that city and county advisors to the program have recommended: strategic management; California and national politics and their influence on the local government manager; ethics in everyday decisions; leadership and vision; changes in society and how they affect the local government manager; problem-solving and performance measurement; negotiation strategies; excellence in public service; and job burnout.  BES is designed to present the best blend of the academic and practitioner worlds.  For more information and to register, please visit http://gspp.berkeley.edu/programs/eip/bes.html

 

SCHOLARSHIP: $1,600 to cover half of the $3,200 tuition cost.  Recipient needs to secure the additional funding for the tuition as well as travel and accommodations.

 

CEPO Accelerated Leadership Development Series in Santa Barbara (August 17-22)

 

The CEPO (Continuing Education for Public Officials) Accelerated Leadership Development Series is a three-year program designed for up and coming public managers and covering an extensive leadership curriculum.  For each of the three years, participants meet for a six-day session focused on developing potential leaders with management knowledge, attitudes and skills as part of an overall organization succession-planning program.  Over 60 city managers in California are CEPO graduates.  MMANC is pleased to offer this scholarship in conjunction with the PNG/Cal-ICMA Coaching Program.  For more information and to register, visit CEPO at http://www.cepoweb.com.

 

SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 to cover half the cost of tuition, lodging, and meals for the first year of the three-year program.  After the first year, the recipient would need to secure funding for the full cost of the program in years two and three.

 

ICMA Annual Conference in Richmond, VA (September 21-24)

 

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Annual Conference enables local government managers and their staffs to network, discuss key management issues, review major local government developments, adopt policy statements, and conduct Association business. Conference keynote addresses, educational sessions, workshops, and field demonstrations provide attendees with an unparalleled opportunity for acquiring new tools and techniques to address the problems facing communities and local government administrators today.  Educational sessions for this year’s conference are organized around the following theme tracks: Infrastructure planning and financing, Organizational and professional sustainability, civic engagement, environmental sustainability, and personal issues facing local government managers.  For more information, please visit http://icma.org/main/bc.asp?bcid=365&hsid=1&ssid1=47&ssid2=2221&ssid3=2946

 

SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 to offset the cost of registration and travel expenses for the conference.  Recipient would need to secure the additional funding for the conference expenses.
