MMANC Region 3 Lunch and Leadership Virtual Series

MMANC Region 3 Lunch and Leadership Virtual Series

Date: April 1, 2026
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Virtual
Description:
Join us for an honest, unscripted conversation with Maraskeshia Smith, City Manager of the City of Sacramento.

Smith brings more than two decades of local government leadership experience spanning Cincinnati, Oakland, Stockton, and Santa Rosa. She took the helm of California’s capital city in January 2026, becoming the first Black woman to serve as Sacramento’s city manager. She now oversees nearly 6,000 employees and a $1.6 billion operating budget, navigating some of the most pressing challenges facing large cities today: fiscal sustainability, public safety, homelessness response, and equitable service delivery.

Before Sacramento, Smith served as City Manager of Santa Rosa, where she was also the city’s first Black female city manager. She holds an MBA from Eastern Kentucky University and earned her ICMA Credentialed Manager designation in 2024.

This is not a lecture or a panel. It’s a candid, peer-to-peer conversation about what it means to lead through complexity, build trust in new organizations, and stay grounded in public service values along the way.

Whether you’re early in your career or a seasoned manager, this is your chance to hear directly from one of Northern California’s most dynamic city leaders in a setting you won’t get anywhere else.
