Description

Under direction, supervises and assists with the maintenance of the financial records and accounts for a departmental or other accounting systems.  The current vacancy is in the Wastewater Department and Police Department; however, this list may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the City.

Representative Duties

The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of all positions in the class.  They are descriptive, not limiting.  Essential Duties: Work involves responsibility for the maintenance of a complex cost accounting system in addition to the normal accounting records of the department and for preparing a variety of financial and statistical reports. Work is carried out under the general supervision of the department head but calls for a considerable independent judgment on technical matters.  Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of employees engaged in financial record keeping, analyzes and interprets accounts and records and budgetary allotments; assists in the preparation, analysis, and review of revenue estimates, expenditures, and fund conditions involving administering budgets; sets up and supervises financial record-keeping systems; prepares periodic financial statements and reports and performs other duties as directed. Reconciles various accounts, including bank and investment accounts, trust accounts, and asset and liability accounts.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applications will be accepted only for those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED City application, resume and transcripts that they have:

• Graduated from college with a major in accounting, including at least 24 units of accounting; OR
• Completion of an equivalent advanced accounting curriculum; OR 
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience
• Highly Desirable: Bachelor’s Degree in a related Business field with at least 24 units of accounting

Examination (Weighted: 100%)

ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (WEIGHTED: 100%):  Oral Appraisal Interview:  Week of September 9,2024 (Tentative): The method of examination may include one or more of the following: written exam; oral exam; evaluation of education, training, experience or other qualifications as shown by the application, or by other information submitted, or by the record; questionnaires submitted to references; or any other appropriate measure of fitness. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. ***NOTE: Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
