The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Accounting Assistant in the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office. Under general supervision, incumbents perform a variety of accounting support duties involving financial record keeping and/or transactions including accounts receivable, routine research and audit of financial documents; collect fees and payments; provide assistance to the public over the telephone or at a public counter, and perform other duties as assigned. Note: This is a County-Wide classification. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies for this classification that may come available in other departments during the duration of this list.

The ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail, cash handling experience and skill in: business arithmetic, algebra, statistics and their applications; applicable laws, codes and regulations; principles and practices of financial record keeping and bookkeeping; and principles and practices of auditing financial documents and records. They will be able to perform the most complex accounting support duties; organizing, researching and maintaining accounting and office files; making accurate arithmetic calculations; planning, directing and reviewing the work of others on a project or day-to-day basis; and reviewing financial documents for completeness and accuracy.

Qualifications

Minimum: Graduation from high school; and one year of experience examining or reviewing accounting, bookkeeping, financial or statistical data or two years of office support experience .

Preferred: In addition to the minimum, completion of one year of college (30 semester units) with coursework involving accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field and two years of experience examining or reviewing accounting, bookkeeping, financial or statistical records.

Special Requirements: Will be required to successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting and/or credit check prior to hire. Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109. The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver’s license within ten (10) days of employment, maintain throughout employment.
