The City of Gilroy is looking for an part-time Network Administrator to assist the Information Technology team with a variety of projects and tasks that need to be completed. This schedule will be 20-25 hours per week.

This position will be able to work with a variety of network technologies, wired and wireless. The City of Gilroy has a number of network focused initiatives such as migration from legacy command line network to new cloud based managed network and participating in our upcoming cyber security assessment project and then the resulting implementation plan.

This position will be primarily technical in nature.  Network experience and expertise will be the main focus.  This position will need to be able to communicate with other IT staff members.

Candidate’s for this position need to have at minimum general network experience with routing and switched networks.  Cisco and Meraki Network, Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) and network based storage experience needed.  Experience with authentication methods and integration with network access needed as well.

Assigned projects for this part-time position will include:Network equipment upgrade/migration
Assist with cyber security assessment tasks
Internet connection upgrade and redundant connection implementation
Firewall upgrade, including redundant firewall implementation
The City’s Information Technology team is a small close-knit group.  We leverage our individual experience and expertise for collaborative problem solving and achievement of the greater agency goals.  We enjoy learning about and discussing new technologies and planning how they can be strategically implemented.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field of study from an accredited college or university is desired.  Completion of an educational or vocational training program which certifies the training necessary to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the City of Gilroy’s Network Administrator position may, at the discretion of the City of Gilroy, substitute.

Three years of increasingly responsible experience in network administration, operation and support which has included the following: experience administering multisite network connectivity, Internet connectivity, data center and edge network installations. experience utilizing remote network access products. Experience working in a public agency is desired, but not required.

Skill in:
The design, implementation, and management of local area and wide area networks.
In depth knowledge of network protocols, routing, VLANs, subnetting and access control lists
Configuration of Cisco network equipment, Meraki equipment also desired
Wi-Fi network setup and configuration
Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) configuration and administration
Independently preparing clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
Ability to:
Work with network cabling
Lift at least fifty (30) pounds.
Work at heights on ladder or stepladder
Work in confined spaces.
