The Business Development Representative is a dynamic role that is integral to the city’s economic development efforts—bridging the gap between various City departments and the businesses they serve. You will be primarily responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with potential and existing local businesses and assisting them in setting up and obtaining necessary permits for their operations. You are tasked with understanding the clients’ needs and aligning them with the City’s services to create a mutually beneficial relationship.

In this role, you will be supporting the Community & Economic Development Department in their renewed commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment. The Business Development Representative is responsible for initiating development agreements, achieving successful outcomes, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout a project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with other divisions in the City to ensure that client requirements are met and projects are delivered on time and within budget.

In addition to public-facing responsibilities, the Business Development Representative plays a significant role in shaping the City’s business strategy. They provide valuable market insights, identify growth opportunities, and contribute to the development of strategic plans. Their understanding of the market landscape and local businesses needs helps the City to stay competitive and relevant as a partner to industry. They will help us be a proactive, high-performance organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two years of responsible experience equivalent to a Business Analyst with the City of Modesto.

Education:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, economics, engineering, or a related field.

License:

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
