THE POSITION

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing operational responsibilities, including, but not limited to, the following:

·         Prepare and process large volume of invoices, purchase orders, timecards and payroll, an additional accounts payable activities;

·         Prepare, develop, and proofread correspondences, policies and related documents;

·         Serves as office manager and supervises front desk staff;

·         Assist with budget and contract preparation and monitoring;

·         Manage and maintain department website;

·         Establish and maintain record keeping system for department; respond to Public Records Act requests;

·         Coordinate department wide trainings; and

·         Answer inquiries from the public, providing information regarding various city functions, policies, procedures and  programs.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for operating the City’s water and sewer utilities, maintaining safe streets, sidewalks, and transportation options, taking care of the City’s eight parks and other green spaces, providing a variety of environmental services, and maintaining all public facilities. The Department strives to provide the highest level of service to Monrovia residents and businesses. The department is organized into two sections: Administration and Operations and together are responsible for all planning, construction, and maintenance of the City’s public infrastructure to preserve and maintain natural resources and provide a premier environment to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.  The Public Works department is in the midst of an aggressive five-year CIP that provides direction and organization to ensure the City’s financial resources are focused on priority projects to enhance the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be:

High school graduation, training in business or secretarial science and three (3) years general office experience, including computer proficiency.  Associate’s Degree, bilingual skills, and the ability to exercise cultural sensitivity awareness is highly desirable.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record.
