About the Position:
The Fire Inspector II position is a full-time position in the Fire Prevention Division of the Fire Department. The position is responsible for a wide range of duties including, but not limited to conducting technical fire inspections, investigating complaints related to fire prevention codes and laws, maintaining records, and coordinating training and education programs which will include public education events that may occur on weekends or outside of normal business hours.
Salary: $82,008.00 – $99,672.00 Annually

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Fire Marshal, to conduct technical fire inspections, plan reviews, public fire education and perform fire investigative work to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position is a non-sworn position in the Fire Department. The Fire Inspector II is a journey-level class where incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties with minimal supervision. The Fire Inspector II class is distinguished from the Fire Inspector I in that incumbents in this class have responsibility for more difficult and complicated programs or projects and may assign, coordinate and provide director or indirect supervision of part-time staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
The successful completion of a certificate program in Fire Technology or Fire Science from an accredited college or university. Plus the successful completion of California State Board of Fire Services accredited courses Fire Inspector IA, 1B, 1C and 1D. Plus the successful completion of California State Board of Fire Services accredited courses Fire Inspector 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D within twelve (12) months of hire.
Completion of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Technology, Fire Science, or a closely related field and California State Board of Fire Services accredited courses Fire Investigation 1A and 1B, Plans Examiner 1A, 1B, 1C, Public Education 1, or equivalent, are highly desirable.
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in fire prevention including fire inspection and public education/relations.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
