The City of Salinas (pop. 163,542) is the 33rd largest city in California and the largest city in beautiful Monterey County. The City is accepting applications for Assistant Planner and Associate Planner. The current vacancy is in the Advanced Planning and Project Implementation Division (APPI) of the Community Development Department and may be filled at either level based on candidate qualifications and departmental needs.
APPI services include leading the update and maintenance of the General Plan and other long-range planning documents, the preparation and/or processing of complex planning projects and initiatives and coordinating the implementation of General Plan and community plan goals, policies, and actions. This position’s primary focus will be to support the content development for the General Plan Update, support preparations of future growth area specific plans, and support implementation of adopted specific and area plans.
At a minimum, Associate Planner candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, public administration, or a related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible, professional planning or public policy experience.
Assistant Planner candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a closely related field; or sixty (60) units from an accredited college in planning or a closely related field and two (2) years of progressive experience in land use planning or a related field, performing duties that demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities required for this assignment; or four (4) years of experience in land use planning or a related field, performing duties that demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities required for this assignment.
