The City of Salinas is accepting applications for a Senior Code Enforcement Officer to perform work as a first-line supervisor requiring specialized skills to secure compliance with zoning regulations and the Municipal Building Codes. Work involves supervision and training of subordinates, establishing rapport with other agencies, City departments, etc., assisting in the development of policies and procedures, and recommending revisions to ordinances and codes. Enforces complex housing, land use, and building codes and ordinances and exercises discretionary authority to bring matters to resolution. Makes compliance recommendations to the Code Enforcement Manager, Community Development Director, City Manager, and/or City Council and frequently appears at administrative hearings and in courts of law.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma/GED

Experience: Four (4) years of journey-level experience with a public agency in code enforcement or building inspection work, and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Experience with a public agency as a certified building inspector is highly desirable.

Licenses and Certifications (All certifications must be maintained during term of employment):
A valid California driver’s license,
California P.O.S.T. approved Penal Code 832 certification,
Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer from California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO), International Code Council (ICC), American Association of Code Enforcement Officials (AACE), California Code Enforcement Corporation (CCEC),or similar certification approved by the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers, and
Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC) or a similar approved certification
