The City of Salinas Community Development Department invites qualified candidates for the vacant position of Senior Plan Check Engineer. This position will supervise the Permit Services Building Plan Check group responsible for reviewing building permit applications. This position will also review large complex projects for code compliance and work closely with community stakeholders to coordinate the efficient and timely approval of applications and permit issuance. The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented, have experience working individually and as a team in a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate strong project management skills.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or structural engineering or architecture.
Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience as a plan checker preparing and/or reviewing plans for conformance with ICC model codes, 2 years of which shall include lead experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Possession of a certificate of registration as a civil or structural engineer in the State of California. Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Plans Examiner. Employee must complete AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention Training within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter.
