The ESD Employee Services (ES) Team in the Administrative Services Division is seeking to hire one (1) Principal Office Specialist position. The ES Team provides a variety of human resources support and services to employees and prospective employees. This position will report directly to the Sr. Analyst in the Workforce Planning Section of the ES Team. This position will be located at San Jose City Hall at 200 E. Santa Clara St. San Jose, CA 95113. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday during regular business hours may have an option for a hybrid schedule.
Typical duties and responsibilities provide human resources support including but are not limited to:
Providing recruitment and hiring support to recruiters and hiring managers (e.g. LiveScan Fingerprint roller, job advertising, interview coordination, etc.)
Assisting with processing new workers’ compensation claims
Coordinating employee exits/separations with supervisors and the Central HR department
Filing and tracking employment transactions
Tracking driver records
Processing performance appraisals and other HR forms
Maintaining and updating the ES Team SharePoint page
Managing purchases and credit card reconciliation
ESD Health and Wellness Committee member
ESD Employee Recognition Committee member
The ideal candidate can handle confidential employee information with integrity, provide attention to detail, and cross-check their work is accurate. The successful incumbent will provide excellent customer service and be proficient in using common computer programs such as Microsoft Office, and virtual platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
The current salary range for the Principal Office Specialist classification is $28.36-$34.48 hourly; $58,988.80-$71,718.40 annually. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.
Effective the first full pay period of the Fiscal Year 2022- 2023, all salary ranges for employees holding positions in this classification shall be increased by at least approximately 3%. To learn more, please review the Municipal Employees’ Federation (MEF) AFSCME Local No. 101 union contract.

1. Education: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate)
2. Experience: Three (3) years of experience in varied office clerical work.
Acceptable Substitution: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
