About the Regional Wastewater Facility

The Regional Wastewater Facility is one of the largest advanced wastewater treatment facilities in the western United States. It works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to clean Silicon Valley’s wastewater to very high national standards, protecting public health and the environment and supporting the economy. Using a treatment process that simulates the way nature cleans water, the Facility treats an average of 110 million gallons of wastewater per day. The Facility serves 1.4 million residents and over 17,000 businesses in eight cities and four sanitation districts.

About the Position

The Environmental Services Department is currently seeking to fill an Industrial Painter position at the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility located at 700 Los Esteros Road, San Jose, CA, 95134. This position typically starts as early as 6:00 a.m. works weekdays and may be able to work a 4/10 schedule, subject to approval.

Position Duties

The Industrial Painter (Painter – Water Pollution Control Plant) position performs specialized journey-level painting work of moderate difficulty to preserve, protect, and aesthetically maintain the Regional Wastewater Facility infrastructure and equipment such as tanks and pipes from exposure to corrosive wastewater as well as hazardous chemicals and gases. This position involves working in a heavy industrial environment such as confined space entries, extensive use of sandblasting equipment, and application of high-performance, multiple component coatings such as high solids epoxies, coal tar epoxies, high solids polyurethane enamels, and sealants. Most service order requests will require sandblasting rust to maintain and preserve the quality of the industrial infrastructure and equipment. Safety training will be provided.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

·         Cleans and prepares surfaces

·         Paints, varnishes, stains, shellacs, including interior and exterior walls, ceilings, desks, cabinets, moldings, and floors

·         Uses, cleans, and stores brushes, spray guns, and other painting tools

·         Paints traffic signals, fire alarm poles, electroliers, and various objects and equipment

·         Mixes paints, varnishes, shellacs, enamels

·         Erects and moves scaffolds, ladders, and planking

·         Operates pick-up trucks, runway stripers, and small striping equipment

·         Prepares requisition forms and orders supplies

·         Lifts and moves furniture and other objects

·         May have to lift heavy weights 20-100 pounds

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills to complete service orders for various work groups such as operations, maintenance, electricians, and other trades, and will be able to work independently and in teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of a high school, General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program.

Certifications: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Physical requirement: Ability to lift heavy weights 20-100 pounds.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position $78,145.60-$94,910.40 annually.
