The City of Santa Cruz currently has three full-time vacancies for the position of Principal Management Analyst in the following departments: 1) City Manager’s Office – 50% of this full-time position will be under the direction of the Assistant City Manager and 50% will be under the direction of the Deputy City Manager in the Homelessness Response Division, 2) Santa Cruz Fire Department, 3) Public Works Department.  The Principal Management Analyst provides executive level assistance to the Director of a large department and other divisions in the department.

City Manager’s Office: This position will support the City Manager’s Office in two areas:

1)  Working on various City Manager’s Office operational and project work including budget management, commissions and committee staffing and other ad hoc projects such as strategic plan implementation and service delivery improvement; and

2) Supporting the Homelessness Response Division by providing high level fiscal and administrative support by preparing, monitoring and analyzing the division budget; assist in preparation of grant proposals and applications; review and analyze data, interpret and prepare reports and make presentations on programs related to homelessness; act as a lead and is responsible for special projects; participates in strategic planning on homeless related initiatives.

Fire Department:  The Santa Cruz Fire Department includes four fire stations and one lifeguard headquarters. Personnel includes firefighter/paramedics, engineers, captains, battalion chiefs, fire prevention staff, training staff, administrative staff, and seasonal lifeguards.  The Principal Management Analyst for the Fire department will support the fire administration staff with the annual budget and project management work, as well as oversight and management of budgets and grants.  Note: The current vacancy will not be assigned to Emergency Management.

Public Works Department:  This position supports the Public Works Department, which includes seven divisions: Transportation Engineering, General Engineering, Operations, Wastewater/Stormwater, Resource Recovery, Parking Operations, and Administrative services. Duties span the general administration and management, coordination, and monitoring of departmental operations; programs and projects; research, analysis, and reporting on particular subjects. As a senior manager, this position will lead on budget, fiscal, and personnel related items; and supervises three administrative staff at the Public Works public counter.
