Contra Costa County is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking professional to lead its self-insured Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department operates within a highly collaborative, evolving organization. The department is responsible for a variety of disciplines including Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Property Insurance and Claims, Loss Control, Occupational Safety, and Environmental Compliance.

The ideal candidate brings:

• A combination of technical depth in risk and insurance management with a collaborative, grounded leadership style.
• A balanced leadership presence that is both analytical and data-driven, while remaining approachable, transparent, and empathetic.
• Demonstrated experience as both a strategic visionary and a hands-on leader, adept at anticipating emerging challenges, navigating complex organizational dynamics, and leading sustained operational and cultural improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in risk management, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity with responsibility for financial oversight and decision-making.
