The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) seeks a Director of Information Technology (IT) to provide strategic direction and guidance for the overall informational technology strategy in support of OHA’s goals and objectives. The Director of IT will work closely with the Chief Officer of Program and Finance Administration to create unison amongst OHA’s software programs. This individual will have a strong background in cloud-based systems and IT operations. Primary responsibilities include overseeing core IT services, implementing hardware and network infrastructure, supporting operating systems software, and leading any other duties that fall under the purview of the IT department. Along with having technical expertise, the successful candidate will serve as a visionary leader. They will support a team effort in technology planning, equipment acquisition, applications development, and establishment of standards for hardware, software, networking, data and voice security, and telecommunications equipment and services. They will also serve as a respectable role model, showing IT staff how to provide excellent customer service, implement innovative solutions, communicate with other departments, prioritize projects, and find solutions to complex issues. The Director will have an in-depth knowledge of telecommunications, business continuity, disaster recovery plans, and cybersecurity, along with the best leadership practices for staff development, goal setting, and project management.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will provide vision and direction to their team and implement a plan to achieve desired outcomes. They will seek out opportunities to develop and advance staff’s professional growth, while also identifying opportunities to maximize productivity. Ensuring staff are meeting a high-level of work performance is essential for this role, as is demonstrating creative problem-solving skills. The next Director will align their own priorities with that of OHA’s strategic infrastructure plan. They will think analytically to use a cloud-based system to ensure key systems, such as finance and human resources, are communicating with one another. This individual will frequently work with contractors and subcontractors, making strong communication and project-management skills a must. As a member of the senior management team, the Director will establish, implement, and administer sound information technology and telecommunications policies and procedures. The successful candidate will also work ethically to protect OHA’s data and resources and support its values.
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be through the following:
Bachelor’s degree, with a major in computer science, information systems management, mathematics, or a closely related field.
A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in information technology or a related field, at the middle or senior management level; a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
A valid California Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.
