About the Position: The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of nine in the Public Affairs Department. Qualified candidates will be considered at two experience levels: level II for seasoned professionals who demonstrate independent judgement and significant expertise in outreach, engagement and communications or level I with less experience; see below for details.

In addition to a working knowledge of communication and community engagement principles, candidates for this position will have specific digital communications and content management expertise and experience with website content management tools (Drupal 8-9), social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn) and tools, and customer relationship management/e-mail marketing tools (Hubspot).

Midpen will look for applicants who have demonstrated expertise in the following areas:
At level II, Public Affairs Specialist responsibilities include development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a wide variety of public affairs programs and projects. The incumbent independently performs a full range of duties: strategic communications planning; writing/content creation for web, video and social platforms, newsletter and other publications, media releases and outreach materials (presentations, brochures); media relations and issues management as project-specific communications lead/public information officer; community outreach and engagement, event planning; and special projects and programs.
At level I, the Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for assisting with public affairs programs and projects including public information, media relations, marketing, community outreach and engagement, content development and social media administration.

Work Environment: This position requires on-site work in an office environment as part of the Public Affairs Department at the Midpen’s offices in Los Altos, California. Following onboarding and successfully meeting job performance expectations, may be eligible for the flexible work program. Evening, weekends, and holiday work should be expected. This position reports to the Public Affairs Manager or designee.

Education and Experience: We realize your time is valuable, so please apply only if you have at least the required minimum qualifications outlined here: any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public relations, communications, business administration, or a related field and
Public Affairs Specialist I: one (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in a public affairs, public relations, communication, or community outreach program.
Public Affairs Specialist II: three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in public affairs, public relations, or communications.

Licenses & Certifications Required: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
