Nevada Irrigation District (Grass Valley, California) is seeking a Controller who will oversee the activities of the Accounting Division within the Finance Department, including six staff and several exciting projects. The Controller will have a background in government accounting and use their leadership expertise to train and inspire staff while developing more efficient processes and structures. They will report directly to the Finance Director and provide department support by being an effective communicator, motivator, timely organizer, and steadfast project manager. The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in local government auditing/ accounting, accounts payable, and payroll. THE JOB/ THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Controller is highly skilled in government accounting and eager to hone their team’s skills through extensive training and professional development initiatives. The Controller will oversee all the activities of the Accounting Division, including the restructuring of various processes and systems pertaining to accounting, payroll, auditing, and cash handling. Other essential duties include developing staff goals, recommending policies and procedures, preparing staff reports, and ensuring compliance and cost effectiveness. This leader will work closely with other NID departments to establish openness, trust, and mutual understanding. They will have an exciting endeavor to make this Division their own and champion its overall success.

The ideal candidate has a balance of highly technical and interpersonal skills. They are an excellent organizer, communicator, negotiator, and project manager, with an eagerness to learn and advance their craft. They use their creative thinking skills to find innovative solutions and are eager to support their team to set the gold standard for standard accounting practices. The successful candidate will adhere to timelines and processes, ensuring the team is meeting deadlines and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. The next Controller will be customer-service oriented and well versed in team building and conflict resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities is described below:

  • Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in public accounting/finance; including three years of administrative and management responsibility.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.

Desired:

  • Possession of a CPA.
