Situated on the northern shores of majestic Lake Tahoe, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District is headquartered in Incline Village, Nevada, just 4 miles east of the California/Nevada border. With a population of 8,700, Incline Village is the largest town in the northern Lake Tahoe region and is surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. The community serves as a luxury mountain retreat and offers residents and visitors a touch of class and serenity with relaxing beaches, nearby mansions, plush hotels, superb restaurants, and high-end casinos.

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) is an all-risk service provider in the northeastern corner of the Lake Tahoe basin within Washoe County, Nevada, providing traditional fire and rescue services, and ALS paramedic transport to local and out-of-the-area hospitals. The District’s fire jurisdiction protects over 16 square miles, including the communities of Incline Village and Crystal Bay. NLTFPD operates on a 2022/2023 budget of $22.8 million out of three stations, with 78 FTEs, including 42 firefighters that respond to approximately 2,200 calls per year. The District protects most of the north shore of Lake Tahoe in a populated area where snowfall can exceed 200 inches per year. In addition to suppression efforts, the District takes pride in its fire prevention efforts, as well. NLTFPD provides the following “all risk” core services: Structure and Wildland Fire Response; Back Country and Water Rescue; High Angle and Confined Space Rescue; Defensible Space Work; Advanced Life Support Transport Emergency Medical Service; Wildland Fuels Reduction; and Public Education.

Under the direction of the District Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal administers the Fire Prevention Division of the District. The Fire Marshal, directly or through subordinates, enforces the applicable adopted fire codes/standards, Nevada State Laws pertaining to fire codes and safety issues, and provides the direct community interface concerning fire code and safety issues. This position manages all services and activities of the Fire Prevention Division, including fire prevention and inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential property; assigns, supervises and reviews inspection and enforcement work performed by personnel; recommends and administers policies and procedures.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering/Technology or a related field is required, along with 10 or more years of progressively professional experience in fire prevention, code enforcement, and fire investigation; 5 of which shall be supervisory level. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
