The Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division, is currently accepting applications for a temporary/extra help* Communicable Disease Specialist to support the Communicable Disease and/or Immunization programs.

The eligible list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future permanent and/or extra help vacancies. Extra help appointments made from this eligible list may be eligible for transition to permanent status, should vacancies arise.

*Temporary/Extra Help assignments are limited to working 28 hours per week with a cap of 999 hours or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants in a fiscal year and are not eligible for benefits.

This classification is scheduled to receive general wage increases of 4% in July 2023 and 4% in July 2024. 

Upon successful completion of a foreign language proficiency exam, an additional 5% bilingual pay will be paid to employees who use a second language on a regular basis in the normal course of business.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two years of experience working with the general public which requires interviewing and obtaining confidential or personal information. Experience working in a public health setting is preferred.

Training: Equivalent to completion of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in healthcare, health science or a closely related field.

NOTE: Relevant, equivalent experience (performing the same or similar job requiring similar knowledge, skills, and abilities) may be substituted for the required education as determined by the Human Resources Department.
