The Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is recruiting for Child Support Specialists II*. Each year our Child Support Professionals work with thousands of parents in San Bernardino County to help the children in our community receive the monetary support needed to thrive and prosper. Child Support Specialists II* are lead workers handling the most complex and sensitive child support cases. Incumbents assist the supervisor in reviewing the work and training of line-level staff and perform case audits for quality assurance and staff development.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County and State may be required. At time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained by the individual providing the transportation.

Pre-employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, including DOJ/FBI clearance, credit check, physical examination and drug test, prior to appointment.

Work Assignment: Applicants must be willing to accept assignment, as needed, to any of the DCSS offices, which are located in Loma Linda, Victorville, and Ontario.

Note: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in Business/Public Administration, Administration of Justice, Behavioral/Social Science, English, Math, Humanities or closely related field. Transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess an associate’s degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields of study.

–AND–
Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time experience establishing or enforcing child support obligations as a Child Support Specialist (or equivalent) in a county agency overseen by a State Department of Child Support Services.

NOTE:  Child Support Specialist Trainee experience is not considered qualifying.

SUBSTITUTION: Option 1: Additional qualifying experience as a Child Support Specialist overseen by a State Department of Child Support Services may be substituted for the required education on the basis of six (6) months of experience for 15 semester (23 quarter) units in the qualifying fields listed above. (example: possession of 24 months Child Support Specialist experience and 15 semester units OR three (3) years (or more) of Child Support Specialist experience and no education)

-OR-
Option 2: Twelve (12) months of experience as a lead worker or full-scope supervisor over technical staff may be substituted for a maximum of six (6) months of the required Child Support Specialist experience. (example: possession of previous work experience as a lead or supervisor and one year of Child Support Specialist experience.)
