This role will work collaboratively on complex current and long-range planning projects and support staff in their decision-making process. THE JOB

The Senior Planner will report to the Town Planner and act as the advanced journey-level lead for the Division’s most complex current and long-range planning projects. The Senior Planner will facilitate many exciting projects while tracking and managing their budgets and progress. Some core duties include development review, partnering with outside agencies and Town staff, and development of programs and policies in support of the 2040 General Plan. They will review complex land use applications, serve as a liaison to the public, and ensure their teams are meeting the Division’s goals. This role will solve complex problems, diffuse tense situations, further develop their staff, and may also supervise.

The ideal candidate will be creative, innovative, and willing to try new things. They will be a service and solution-oriented person who is highly skilled in planning functions. An innovative leader who understands how collaborative efforts enhance the ability to provide best-in-class service will do well in this position. The successful candidate will have a record of straightforward and open communication and a willingness to make effective decisions within the parameters of the position, as well as the ability to effectively manage conflicting perspectives and priorities. They will also have a strong background in project management and program administration. A candidate with a strong record of collaborative work with internal and external stakeholders would be highly valued, as the Senior Planner must be able to develop positive relationships with staff, other Town departments, the public, and several external agencies.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying, however a typical way of obtaining these are:

  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, architecture, environmental design, public administration, or a directly related field.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license to be maintained throughout employment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $95,049 – $128,316 annually; salary will be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience.
