Technology Systems Analyst I/II – Security Administration

**Please Note: An additional salary increase of 5% will be effective 7/1/23.

This is a multi-discipline classification for use in Technology Services (TS) Division. Under general supervision, incumbents may be assigned to perform a wide variety of duties in the support, planning, design, implementation, and security of the specified discipline. This class performs tasks of a more technical and analytical nature for areas in the City’s communication, geographic information systems, networking, infrastructure, server, systems administration, programming, security, web, and media.

The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position’s essential duties.  They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties (Security Administration):  Provides security expertise and feedback in the development of security policies and procedures; Provides technical expertise to meet City physical and cyber security needs; Participates in the design, execution, and review of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and security audits; Installs, administers, and maintains various security products, applying updates as scheduled; Monitors and responds to automated and human submitted alerts, investigating possible causes, concerns, and resolutions.

Technology Systems Analyst I

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in a related field; AND
• Two years recent experience in the Security Administration discipline equivalent to Technology Systems Technician; OR
• An equivalent combination of training, certification and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
• Valid California class “C” driver’s license.
• Vendor or industry certifications include but are not limited to those from CompTIA, ISC2, GIAC, etc.
• Must be able to pass an extensive police background check.

Technology Systems Analyst II

• Requires an additional (2) years of experience in the Security Administration discipline equivalent to Technology Systems Technician

Highly Desirable:

• Experience with Vulnerability / Risk / Compliance Audits and Assessments.
• Experience working with Network Analytics / Packet Captures / Log Parsing.
• Experience working with various Enterprise Security Appliances such as Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, and related client software.

OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Project management principles and planning methods; Maintains familiarity with laws, rules, and regulations governing maintenance and operation of communications equipment in City-wide government applications; IT security industry, including awareness of new or revised security solutions, industry best practices, and attach and threat violation.  Ability to: Train City staff on the proper use of assigned products or systems;  Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, Divisions, and Departments; Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in the industry; Understand, translate, and report on security event management, log analysis, and intrusion detection systems;  Determine security risks and provide mitigation recommendations.   Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: Standard office environment and conditions, including lifting and placement of computer equipment. Must be willing to work long hours, weekends, and holidays during emergencies.
